Everything!

Customer Review: Good stuff
Everything I had hoped for from the Tones and more. Makes you miss the halcyon days in which this lively and innovative music was made. A great job of packaging too - a really solid collection including the pop stuff and the fun oddities.
Customer Review: One of the greatest ever
As much as I love music and all it has to offer, nothing has ever struck and stuck with me like TOT. I owned the POP album on vinyl, and I played it time and time again. Absolutely brilliant! I adore Love and Rockets, and I think Bauhaus are OK (a bit overrated), but this was a true gem. You absolutely must listen to "Rain". Greatest song ever composed in my opinion. I can't stress enough how wonderful this song is. It opens up with ambient organ and guitar (which is e-bowed, a method used throughout their songs), and then it morphs brilliantly into the singing and structure. Lyrically it is stunning, and I tell you the music will just stick with you. Just a beautiful song!

Named after their hometown, the soft rock outfit, Boston has a loyal core of fans. Boston the band was in its prime during the 1970s and 1980s but they have never really gone away. They are a particular favorite with radio DJs and their appeal cuts across the generations. The most famous song associated with them is probably More Than a Feeling.

As with most groups that have been around for a long time, there have been several changes to the line up. The only remaining original member is Tom Scholz and he founded the band Boston, plays on guitar and writes most of the music. Current members also include Gary Pihl on guitar, Jeff Neal on drums and Kimberley Dahme on bass. Dahme is the first female member of the line up. Scholz is also well known for his innovation in the recording studio and has designed his own recording and sound equipment. He is a perfectionist in the studio and strive to reproduce the best sound possible on stage.

The group has a habit of making platinum albums, including the debut from 1976. Called Boston, the album sold more copies than any other debuts in American history. The follow up, two years later, Don't Look Back, also reached platinum sales, as did the next two. Third Stage was released in 1986 and Walk On in 1994. A Greatest Hits release was another bestseller in 1997. In addition to the old hits, it contained three new songs. The latest album from Boston the band is Corporate America, which came out in 2002.

The single, More Than a Feeling, from the debut album, reached number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was promoted with a video of the group in concert. The song has been covered several times including a version by boy band *NSYNC. "Weird Al'' Yankovic has also done a parody of the song. It is featured on the PlayStation game, Guitar Hero.

There was a very emotional reunion for Boston the band in 2007 when Tom Scholz organized a tribute concert to former vocalist with the group, the late Brad Delp. Both current and past members of the band came together to celebrate Delp's life, playing their classic hit records. The concert, at Boston's Bank of America Pavilion, was a great success. Despite the circumstances, it was an uplifting affair for the band and their fans as they remembered the vast contribution that Delp had made to the band's success.

Ok so you play guitar or are looking to learn.but which guitar do you buy? Its a question that guitarists the world over ponder time and time again.

Sure theres the ever greens such as the Fender Stratocaster or the Gibson Les Paul and their inexpensive copies. But thats a well trodden path what you want is a little character a little something that makes you stand out what you want is a hollow body semi acoustic.

Why a semi acoustic?

Ok for starters a Semi Acoustic looks the business. Take a look at a Gibson 335 with its smooth double cut away design and its elegant curves. When you step on the stage with a semi acoustic people notice. Take a look at a Strat or a Les Paul then take a look at a Semi theres a stark difference first off, semis are big but more importantly they are much lighter than their solidbody, comfortable to play and pack a punch in the sound department.

Their sound

Coupled with its looks hollow-bodies have a great range of tone and musical capability. From the Epiphone Casinos beautiful Jazzy tone to the Epiphone Wildkat that packs a rockabilly punch theirs a broad range of tones that can be generated. Hollow bodies traditionally come with two Humbucker pickups. Typically the bridge pickup can produce some great rock and roll tones whilst the neck pickups are great for jazzy Charlie Christian licks.

Their price

Although for a fully fledged Gibson 335 you may need several thousand dollars, these days there are a variety of budget alternative hollow body guitars. For example Epiphone make the Epiphone Wildkat which features a Bigsby style tremolo system for around $500. Other manufacturers such as Vintage and Ibanez all produce very good imitations of their more expensive counterparts at a much reduced price. If you shop around youll surprised at what you can afford.

Versatility

Hollow bodies are extremely versatile and lend themselves to a wide range of musical styles for example - Chuck Berry style Rock and Roll (Gibson 335), BB King style Blues (Gibson 335), Chet Atkins Country (Gretch Country Gent), Alt-Rock Noel Gallagher (Epiphone Sheraton) and finally 60s Pop (John Lennon Epiphone Casino) semis lend themselves to a range of musical styles.

Their tradition.

Hollow body guitars were some of the first electric guitars manufactured. Epiphone were making adjustable pole pickup semi acoustic guitars in the 1930s so they have a long and proud history.

So the next time your thinking of getting a new guitar sure a Stratocaster is nice and a Les Paul has finesse but if you want a great guitar, with great looks sound and versatility look no further than the hollow-body semi acoustic guitars at your local store.
